A safe home is a basic right for every individual, and through this program we aim to provide dignified living conditions for those who live in dangerous conditions or who have no shelter at all.
Families living in extreme poverty or who have lost their homes due to natural disasters benefit from new houses built by the foundation. Each house is equipped with the basic conditions for a safe and sustainable life.
For families with damaged homes, we provide renovation services to ensure they are habitable and sustainable.
For those in emergency situations and without a place to live, we provide temporary housing until their long-term problem is resolved.
In some rural areas, where the needs are greatest, we create small community centers that provide shared housing for individuals and families.
Providing safe and stable housing is one of the most important interventions of the “Fundjavë Ndryshe” Foundation. For many families in need, the lack of decent shelter is one of the biggest challenges that directly affects the quality of life and the opportunity to build a better future.
Since 2015, the foundation has developed ongoing programs in the field of housing, offering concrete and long-term solutions to families living in difficult conditions.
What does the housing program include
The housing program includes the construction of new houses, the reconstruction of existing houses and the provision of necessary furniture for living.
Our interventions aim not only to provide a roof over the head, but to create dignified living conditions for beneficiary families.
In emergency cases, such as earthquakes, the foundation has intervened with the construction and furnishing of houses for affected families, ensuring their return to a normal life.
Impact in numbers
During the years of activity:
•720 houses have been built and purchased throughout the country
•54 new houses have been built and furnished after the earthquake in Albania
•11,655 families have been supported and lifted out of extreme poverty
•projects have also been implemented in Kosovo, Macedonia and Montenegro
•2 schools have been restored and reconstructed
Left without any parents or, in some cases, with only one foster parent, these children face a lack of basic support. A safe home not only provides them with physical stability, but also creates a foundation for education and personal development.
Elderly people living alone and in extreme economic conditions are one of the most marginalized groups in society. A new home for them brings not only security, but also dignity.
Individuals with serious illnesses often face high medical costs, while being unable to secure adequate housing. For them, stable housing represents a vital relief and stress reduction.
In Albania, low incomes and high housing prices make it almost impossible for a poor family to buy a house, even if they work for several generations.
According to statistics, a large part of the population lives on wages that do not even cover basic needs. This reality creates a deep gap between the ability to save and the price of a home.
The average price of a house in Albania is often unaffordable for families living below the poverty line. In many cases, even for middle-income families, securing a home requires decades of sacrifice.
Even when several generations of a family work to purchase a home, expenses for food, education, and healthcare often make it impossible to accumulate sufficient savings.
A safe shelter provides the foundation for a stable and dignified life. When individuals and families no longer have the anxiety of housing insecurity, they can focus on education, employment, and personal development.
Providing housing for orphaned children and those in extreme poverty creates opportunities for a better education and helps break the cycle of poverty.
A new home offers dignity to the elderly who often remain forgotten and without family support.
Through housing assistance, society builds a culture of solidarity and awareness to help those who are most vulnerable.
The Fundjavë Ndryshe Foundation has developed a structured approach to providing housing for the most marginalized groups in society:
Through an in-depth analysis of the economic and social conditions of families.
With the help of donors and collaborators, the foundation builds or purchases homes that meet the standards necessary for a safe life.
In addition to housing, beneficiary families are often included in other support programs, such as food, health, and educational assistance.
Housing assistance is not just a solution to an individual problem; it is an investment in a stronger and more humane society. A new home creates a foundation for personal development, family stability, and a more secure future for younger generations.
“Providing shelter for those living in extreme conditions is not only a humanitarian act, but a step towards building a society where every individual has the opportunity to live with dignity.”
